Set in early 20th century India, when sati, the practice of burning widows on the funeral pyres of their husbands had just been abolished, but widows were still regarded as accursed, this novella explores the passion buried in the heart of one young widow who would not let custom and tradition get in the way of her love.

The story contained a lot of hot solo action and even an unexpected twist. It was basically an adult fairytale that was thoroughly enjoyable to read.

Jacqueline’s job as bar wench is only a cover for the espionage she is engaged to on behalf of the young United States Navy. But the job is not one she took on willingly, and she is also unwilling to marry her father’s choice of suitors. When the Black Thief of the Islands enters her bar, all bets are off. This compelling man may be the answer to her prayers, but how can a navy commander’s daughter and a pirate ever find happiness?

There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned pirate/wench romance, and Angel’s Master is definitely a fine example of a novella in that tradition. There is enough swashbuckling and adventure to suit even the most exacting fan of the genre, as well as a very handsome hero who doesn’t even know his life is empty until he meets Jacqueline. The difference here is that Ms. Sookoo’s heroine is not the fainting, needy eighteen year old of many such novels. She’s twenty-six and ready to make her own life if only the opportunity presents itself. Another page-turner from Sandra Sookoo.

How many of us have fantasized about some hot man we’ve seen? Okay, maybe you are reluctant to admit it, but it happens. Lisette Hugo was on vacation in Nice, France and had the most gorgeous gardener working outside her rented cottage daily. He seemed to purposely try to get her attention more and more, so how could she resist watching him, fantasizing about him? And Paul, the gardener/owner of the cottage, did his own share of dreaming about the beautiful woman who watched him. Their mutual attraction was like a time-bomb waiting to explode…and, oh wow, it did.

Not only did the author create a wonderfully hot little story, but also she developed a plot line that had showed how the two characters needed each other’s help in different ways. My only disappointment was the brief introduction of a “villainess” who gave a threat that was never followed up on. She added a moment of complication, but could have been used in a stronger manner.

Still, the book, the second in her Naughty Ladies of Nice series, is an enjoyable read. You also might want to check out the first book, French Tart.

**Book Two of the Phoenix Prophecy

What an interesting plot the author wove, from the prologue to the end. If you think this is just another werewolf story or just another M/F/M story, you’re wrong. It is both of those and more.

Jayce and Ryder Vanir are twin wolves who were cast out from their pack as hell-raisers and now work as bounty hunters for bad-ass paranormals. More than that, though, they’ve always believed because of their uniqueness as twins they can never have normal mate relationships. They are doomed to going from woman to woman, loving hard, but never forever.

Caitlin grew up as their shadow, always protected by them until they were forced from her pack. She has loved both of them her whole life, but never believed anything could come of her young girl’s dreams. Even seeing them again after all these years, she fears that she’ll never find true happiness. She still loves them, but…

For a novella and not a lot of time for story development, this one was well done. The characters were nicely developed, with just enough background revealed. Each of the three main characters had depth to them, plus there was good depth given to the two side characters. I always a good villain to detest. The external conflicts were strong and pulled a reader forward, hoping they can be overcome. And the plot twist worked well.

I’m really disgusted with myself for not having read Book One of the Phoenix Prophecy, but I’ll be sure to look for it. Saying that, I recommend you look for both novellas. And watch for the continuation of the series.

Emily has no choice but to try and escape the deception that tortures her soul. After she finds out that her husband cheated on her and to beat it all, with her only living relative, her sister. She flees in attempt to escape the heartache, but doesn't get far before the world around her spins and leaves her a fallen woman amongst the darkness.

Jax is tired of the centuries of loneliness. Emily is his last hope for sanity--for love. If only he could convince her that she is meant to be with him will he have a future.

Will his powers become his enemy, or will they reel him into a seductive spell of passion?

With a talented pen, Turner tells the story of two lonely hearts who find comfort in sexual desire and passion. The problem is she manages to tell the story, but litters it with cheesy phrases and cliché word choices.

If you are looking for something quick and sensual, give this a quick read.

Mace hates NASCAR and racing. Quincy loves NASCAR racing and she has a promise to her dead father to fulfill. Her would be lover Megan had designs on her, but gave her an emerald necklace as a parting gift-or was it? His ex-stalks his every move. She finds she is not only in a race against other driver’s time but also time and his ex-wife and it would seem ex-friend Megan who wanted to be more. Who will win? What will be the cost?

The story is slow to build and while well constructed, at times the scenes seemed to border on filler. Blind date is a story of opposites attracting and maybe that lent itself to its formulaic feel. Sex that’s supposed to be hot seemed like little more than a flash in the pan and had me skipping them in order to get back to the main story.

It is Cassandra’s birthday but she is far from celebrating more like moping about a certain man in her life. Thinking about her best friend Daren and trying to forget her attraction to him she decides to stay home this year and drink by herself. It is her birthday after all and she gets to choose what she wants to do. A surprise visit from Daren has Cassandra’s head spinning especially with his offer to take her away for the weekend for some hot sex and fun. What will she do?

Cassandra and Daren have a great relationship as best friends that develops into much more before the weekend is over. Cassandra is a headstrong and stubborn woman. Daren is a great man who is in love and willing to do everything he can to show it. As you read this story you find yourself rooting for Daren hoping that he will break down the barriers around Cassandra’s heart. As hot as the sex was in this book the love they both have for each other shines through. I loved the banter between the two as Cassandra tries to relax and be the submissive for Daren. You take an emotional ride in this book as Cassandra learns to be free with herself and enjoy the submissive lifestyle and you find yourself wishing that she could be as free with her heart as she is with her sex life. With characters so full of depth and emotion this is a book that should not be missed.

Just as nature finds its way to survive, love can find a way to exist. The author did an interesting job of creating a hot, sexual relationship between a human and a hybrid quasi-human, cat shifter.

Jared is a scientist commanding a pod in space, working as a particle sweeper. His work would be extremely lonely if he didn’t have Savannah with him as both a navigator and companion. Their relationship is erotically hot and pleasing to both of them. But can it be more? As his feelings for her grow stronger, he wonders what will happen between them when he is forced to retire from working in space and take a position back on-planet? Will the wild woman disappear from his life and return to her home in the jungle? Can he accept that?

This was a very short story but pulled me into it, enough that I would enjoy reading a follow-up story.

When Anne is rescued from certain death by a handsome demon, she learns that the price for her rescue is pretty steep – her soul. And when that demon follows her home, it’s only a matter of time before he discovers the secret that Anne has hidden in her closet. If she is to avoid eternal damnation, Anne must find a way to break her contract with the Prince of Darkness.

I read Sandra Sookoo because she totally cracks me up. Her heroines have a self understanding that is admirable and Anne is no exception. At the start of the story she is facing death with an irony and subtle sarcasm that hold up even when she has to face her demon, literally.

Gregg Carter, demon and IRS auditor is just the right hero for this heroine, if circumstances can just be altered so that they can be together. So, to sum up, sexy heroes, real women heroines and humor. A real win-win combination.

Amy always knew she wasn’t quite normal, but she tried to be. When an altercation in the ER during her shift leaves her with a little blood on her arm, her life changes forever. James is a Protector, a practitioner of majick for the greater good of humanity. When Amy is targeted by and evil Blood Demon it becomes James’ job to protect her and help her accept the powers deep within herself. The simple assignment turns deadly when James realizes Amy isn’t quite ready for the challenge and the Blood Demon is more powerful than any of them could have known.

Eating, demon smacking and sexual tension. Is there really much more a paranormal story needs? Ms. Thacker nailed a fast paced story that kept the tension growing and left me satisfied…enough. A few choice openings were left for future books and I cannot wait to get them in my hot little hands. I liked that there was patience in the characters. Both Amy and James wanted to jump each other, but they let things build to the boiling point instead of going with the first urge. The fight scenes were great, majick original and interesting. It’s an all around great paranormal story that I think anyone who enjoys the genre will be able to get into and want more of.

This book was a fast read—almost too fast. It felt hurried and had it been a bit longer the book would have been just about perfect. The characters were likable and it had a solid plot. There was an obvious and strong connection between Devlin and Cilia right from the start. The sexual tension between them made it even better when they got together. I loved his family and they tied beautifully into the tale.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a short read with a great story line.

The third book in the author’s Dragon Lord series continues with the romantic story of a dragon shifter and a part dracon woman. It is a story of long unrequited love, of dreams thought never to become reality. And it is a wonderful end to the series, even if I hate seeing the series end.

Lady Trinia had spent years craving her mate yet believing once he finally saw her, he would reject her as others had done because she thought herself a freak of nature. But in order to save her friend’s castle, she must ask for the help of the big red dragon who owns her heart. Lord Brennen does battle on her behalf and lays claim to the woman of his tortured dreams, his mate. Finally together all seems perfect, until…

As in the previous books, the author has woven a wonderful, brief story of a love tested by the harshness of life. She has given us characters to admire and to hope they can find that magical happily-ever-after moment.

The second book in the author’s Dragon Lord series continues from the first book, which you will want to read as well. This story gives the reader another deliciously “hot” dragon determined to win his mate and her love.

Lady Sabine has fallen in lust, possibly more, with the golden dragon-shifting lord. She is determined to find a worthy mate, not play games with the laughing, handsome Lord Berg. He disappointed her already by leaving once when he was about to prove his merit. Although he wants to claim her as his mate now that he has returned, she resists. She insists he take part in the Bride Hunt. If he cannot find her, they will not wed.

Again the characters are well written and have the reader pulling from them. She has her reasons for resisting the dragon lord she loves. He has reasons why he left her before, but he will prove his love and worthiness rather than merely explain. If he can survive…

As with the first novella in the series, you will have to read this short, but hot romance to find out what happens. Again, the characters will win your heart.

Talk about a “hot” dragon…Grun definitely filled that role. This story was further proof, at least fiction-wise, that racial differences don’t matter in the face of true love.

Princess Taja captures a reader’s heart as she knows she must be forced into marriage as the “spare” child of her father rather than the “heir,” but she doesn’t have to like it. She is a warrior, a defender of her people, not a woman most men see as typical wife material. She knows this and so spends her nights dreaming of a black dragon coming to her. She dreams of him turning into a magnificent man who does wondrous things to her body. But when…

You will have to read this short, but hot romance to find out what happens. Trust me, the characters will win your heart.

Oh no! The book ended all too soon! I loved this first book and look forward to reading the next part, II: The First Dark Diary, coming in July 2010.

The author wove a wonderful story with numerous twists and turns, pulling me eagerly along all the way to the end. It was an enjoyable different version of the vampire world. The characters were well drawn, emotions running deep, including for the villainess.

I particularly loved Addison’s thoughts about Eva: His heart was as dead as his body, or so he thought, yet this human woman kindled every dormant emotion he possessed. And I enjoyed when he first took her in his arms to fly through the sky because He wanted to give her an adventure that few humans ever experience. A special gift, just for her. He was so very much my kind of hero! Eva, too, was special and her love for Addison was a beautiful thing to experience.
