“Haven Smith is a shifter who has never shifted. She spends her evenings protecting women and children from the men who would hurt them. She likes her solitary life just fine, until one night she meets a man who changes her world forever. Adam is determined to take Haven to meet the family she doesn’t remember and show her that she deserves love--his love.”

Ms Summers start of the Alexander Wolves series promises to be a start of a series I am destined to buy.  The story starts with a flawed Alpha Female, she is a shape shifter who refuses to shift, can’t get much more flawed then that.  She is one of the strongest heroines I have encountered in a long while and is immediately likable and relate-able. Enter our hero, a man I would take home any day of the week, gentle and infinitely patient all the while sexy, and all MALE. Exactly what Haven needs. The story is strong and riveting. My only complaint is that the POV switches occasionally made me feel like I was head hopping.  I simply couldn’t put this book down once I started reading, I found myself opening my nook at the drive thru waiting for my lunch and any minute I could sneak a peak. I cannot wait for the next story in the series.  So hurry up Ms Summers, your eager readers await.

Detective Cameron Douglas is a werewolf who has hidden what he was for years to work as a cop. He has also hidden the fact that he’s gay. Nearly dying and losing his hearing because he gets too close on an investigation changes everything. He is told to “take up gardening or something” and not even given the chance at a desk job. He is angry about it all, but his ENT therapist both refuses to let him wallow in self-pity and arouses him at the same time.

Noel Miller is a vampire and a therapist for the deaf. He has had his own problems over the years, and kept many secrets. He hasn’t had a long-term relationship or wanted one until he meets a wounded, frustrated werewolf with attitude. He has finally found someone to love, if he can convince a certain  “Fur face” to give them a chance.

Great characters! I fell in love with both of them early into the story and was cheering for them all the way. And then there were all the unique side characters added to the mix, even more fun.  A definite keeper.

Marcus isn’t necessarily the strongest werewolf in his pack, but through cunning and luck, he became alpha. His pack is animalistic, cruel and lives by the law of the strongest survives. Within that mindset, the tender male attention that he craves is unacceptable, so he spends moments with other males in secret to maintain his status. Jack is a yuppie human, on his way up in the world. From humble beginnings, he fought the social stigmas and became a man of means and reputation. But all that changes when he hits a wolf with his car. A mauling brings changes in Jack and not just his sight and food preferences. He sees a man, feels that man and wants him. Marcus and Jack finally meet, man-to-man and the lust explodes, but will Marcus jeopardize his place in the pack for Jack and can Jack ever accept what it means to be a werewolf?

Pack of Lies, for the most part, is a harder story. Told from alternating first point of views from Jack and Marcus, the reader gets very different views on what is happening and then has to put them together, which is no hardship as the plot flows very well. The sex is hot, frequent and varied, which is nice. The big downfall I felt in the story was in Marcus’ viewpoint. There were times when it felt very feminine, even distractingly so, which I felt didn’t fit his character. But all in all, a good m/m story featuring the not so cuddly side of werewolf paranormal romance. Definitely worth picking up when a reader wants something different.
