Hope Lewis leaves behind everything she knows when she travels from Baltimore to the wilds of west Texas to live with an uncle she’s never met after the death of her beloved guardian. Her uncle holds secrets to her past that make her question everything she’s always believed about her family and herself.

At her uncle’s ranch, Hope meets the devastatingly handsome Ethan Kincaid. Ethan is instantly drawn to her but is struggling to recover from the murder of his fiancée at the hands of a renegade rustler two years earlier. The villain soon targets Hope in a further attempt to drive her uncle and Ethan from their land.

This book has all the makings of a classic Western, but I was disappointed by the lack of fresh elements. I wanted more dimension to the characters and more depth to their emotional responses. That said, the writing is smooth, and the descriptions lend a nice sense of place to the southwestern setting.
